Familiar metrics like costs, search volume, and click-through rate help you see how this keyword fits in your plans. Newer concepts like ranking difficulty and # of Homepages give you a different perspective on how much you’ll be doing to rank on this keyword.

The monthly searches make "local" figures more prominent. On SpyFu.com, "Local" refers to the US market, and "Global" searches include all other geographic searches on Google.com. Our SpyFu.com/UK data sees local searches as everything in the UK.

Profitable Related Keywords

By looking at strong competitors in this niche and their most successful keywords over time, we can suggest similar keywords here that we found to be profitable for your competition.

The last column "Track SERP" is a shortcut to setting up weekly tracking for a domain on the specific keyword you chose. We'll report back on the site's performance across Google, Yahoo and Bing. You can have us track many keywords for a domain, and you can add more domains, too.

Columns for "cost per click," and "click through rate" let you change the measurement from exact match to phrase match or broad match. For "monthly searches," it defaults to exact local (for Google.com, local means the US market), but exact global figures are available. Change any of these by hovering over the column header and clicking the orange arrow that appears.

On the overview tab, this section offers a preview of the top advertisers who bid on this keyword and the ad copy they used each month. Here you find just the top 10 advertisers and their ads. However you can select the Ad History tab or click "View More" at the bottom of this section to access the full list of advertisers and export the entire ad set with up to 7 years of history.

Each colored box represents an ad that ran during that month. You'll see the version of that ad from v0 (the first variation we ever saw from that domain) on to later versions like v4 and v15. The color changes gradually with each variation so you can easily spot where they brought back an older variation after testing new ads. Click the box to view the exact ad copy that ran. Hover over that same box to see where they ran that same ad copy in other months.

 

Organic Search Ranking Analysis

This section organizes the factors that affect your ranking on this keyword. It starts with a score to help you compare how hard it is to rank on this keyword when compared to other terms you might target. That way you can prioritize your SEO efforts.

Other details in this section include competitive measurements like "Number of Homepages" and ".Gov and .Edu Domains" so you know the types of pages that Google gives preference to for this particular search.

In the grid, we list the exact pages (URLs) that rank. You can click the URL link to open a new page and see ranking details for that specific piece of content.

Domain Information

Domains are listed in another column to help you skim the different domains and find multiple rankings from one site. When there are multiple rankings from one site, you will see a blue icon next to the domain that shows how many times that domain appears in the top results. (About.com "x3" tells you that about.com shows up in 3 different organic positions.) The yellow "ad" icon next to a domain tells you that they advertise on this keyword, too.

The Domain Strength column is another option for weighing the competition and understanding the kinds of sites that are considering authorities on this keyword.

Ranking History's "View History" link connects you to a page that tracks this domain's ranking over time on the keyword you searched. From there, you can trace its rankings on more keywords during the same stretch of time, or compare another domain's performance on the original keyword within the same chart.
