I already am seriously impaired using SpyFu because I'm running snow leopard on my computer and cannot use google gears. I have had to keep one machine around running an old version just so I can use the site. With Google's recent announcement that they will be dropping support for gears and they're essentially moving everything to html 5, what is the plan for the future of SpyFu? When can we expect a new version built on an up to date technology?
Thanks.

Our plan will be to migrate things to HTML 5 as well. For the time being Google is still supporting gears and uses it themselves for certain options in gmail. You should be still be able to export directly to xls or csv without having to user our Gears Grid.
I found this link real quick on Google. We haven't tried these steps ourselves, put the person who posted this had success. http://theappleblog.com/2009/09/15/how-to-get-google-gears-working-in-snow-leopard/

I also just heard back from a customer with the same issue. They said they were able to get Firefox to run Gears under SL. So that is another workaround option.

I'm on Snow Leopard on my normally fast MacBook Pro. I'm trying to use Firefox 3 for Keyword Smart Search but it is taking forever, more than 30 minutes so far for the two keywords that I entered. Is this normal for it to take so long or does it just not work on Snow Leopard period? Very frustrating to see the loading message box for so long with nothing happening.

Avere, It should work on snow leopard if you use the 32 bit version of safari. I think you were running into a bottle neck we experienced yesterday with Keyword SmartSearch. It should be all caught up now.

So how is HTML 5 support coming along? Just signed up and was surprised (and a bit frustrated to be honest) to find you guys using Google Gears - which is definitely no longer supported by Google and doesn't even work in their own browser. This isn't a cheap tool, think it's fair to expect an interface that functions on modern platforms.
Cheers.

epicmarketing, I'm sorry to say that we don't have another grid option in place yet. All of our developer resources have been going toward the creation of SpyFu Recon Files. To my knowledge, chrome still comes preinstalled with gears on it. Also, firefox, IE, and safari 32 bit should install gears fine. Also, we try to provide a direct CSV export as an alternative to using our gears grid for most major lists.
To provide some explanation ... Recon Files are white labelable reports on domains. Specifically we're starting with SEO reports. A trailier is here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6bXtQivdCI. The beta sign up is here, http://www.spyfu.com/recon/
I will pass your feedback along. While I don't know our next project for certain, I assume once the Beta of recon gets going in the next new months that we will turn our attention to removing gears from our site.
